Family Circle Of Prayer
Motivated by the experience of the first Discovery Weekend at Holy Cross in February 1989, members from the table of “LOVE” started monthly visits to each other’s homes for prayers and sharing. At the first Discovery weekend we had not Chapel. However, Ruthie Adderley and Rose Mae Thompson were asked by Canon Neil Roach to pray for one of the speakers at a subsequent Discovery Weekend. After this, Mrs. Adderley and Mrs. Thompson discussed the possibility of forming a Prayer Group which would be available for Spiritual weekends and Missions.
Several ladies net for the first time at Mrs. Adderley home, and thereafter continued meeting alternately. In early 1996, they commenced prayer meetings at 11 a.m. on Mondays and public holidays, and the name “Holy Cross Family Circle of Prayer” was chosen along with their theme: “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from the wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their Land. 2 Chron. 7:14
Over the years, they have been involved in early morning prayer walks and drives, stopping to prayer at different points on the Island, early morning Advent and Lenten retreats, centering prayers, special vigils and intercessions for a new Rector for the Church, the Clergy of our Diocese, the Country and for the peaceful general elections, special Masses for women in May and men in June and other time during the year, visit the sick, those who are shut-ins and the old folk homes.
A prayer box is in place at the back of the Church, and prayer request forms are provided in need of special prayers. The box is opened each Monday and intercessory prayers, thanksgiving and praise are offered on behalf of those who ask.
The group consists of 25 persons with an average attendance of 19 persons per week from Holy Cross, other Anglican churches, other denominations in New Providence and visitors from the Family Islands, the Caribbean and the United Sates. The group is moving with excitement from Glory to Glory, continuing on the path of wholeness and completeness in Jesus Christ our Saviour Lord, Lord and Lover of our souls.
All are welcome to attend any Monday morning at 11 a.m.
